Welcome to SoundScapeExplorer
Introduction
SSE v14.0.13 is a comprehensive toolkit for bioacoustic
research, providing tools to extract, analyse, and visualise patterns in audio
recordings.
It combines machine learning, acoustic indices, and interactive visualisation to help researchers explore soundscape data at scale.
The Two Modules
Processing CLI
- Python-based command-line tool for audio analysis
- Extracts features using neural networks and acoustic indices
- Performs dimensionality reduction and clustering
- Generates HDF5 files containing all processed data
Standalone Application
- Electron desktop app combining three integrated modules:
- Campaign: Configure audio files, tags, and extraction parameters
- Audio Engine: Manage audio playback with spectrograms and adjustable rates
- Visualisation: Explore data with 3D scatter plots, filtering, and export capabilities
- Interactive filtering by tags, time, coordinates, and acoustics
Requirements
Processing CLI
- Python 3.11
- 8GB+ RAM
- 3.5 GB of disk space
- Multi-core processor for efficient processing
- Optional: NVIDIA GPU for accelerated extraction
Standalone Application
- Modern desktop OS (Windows 10+, Ubuntu 22+, macOS 13+)
- OpenGL-compatible graphics
- Audio playback capability
